1 TASTE
Bitter, pungent, salty and slightly warm


2 MERIDIANS
Lung, spleen, stomach and large intestine


3 FUNCTIONS
1. To resolve phlegm and promote water metabolism; 2. To conduct qi downward and stop vomiting.


4 INDICATIONS
1. Phlegm fluid blocking the lungs manifested as asthma and cough with profuse sputum. Inula flower (Xuan Fu Hua [3]) is used with Pinellia tuber (Ban Xia [4]) and Asarum herb (Xi Xin [5]).2.Phlegm fluid blocking the stomach leading to rebellious qi manifested as eructation, vomiting and epigastric full sensation. Inula flower (Xuangfuhua) is used with Red ochre (Dai Zhe Shi [6]), in the formula Xuanfu Daizhe Tang.


5 DOSAGE
3-10 g


6 COUTIONS
When decocting this herb should be wrapped in cloth.
