1 TASTE
Bitter and cold


2 MERIDIANS
Heart, Liver, stomach, large intestine and urinary


3 FUNCTIONS
1. To clear heat and dry dampness; 2. To promote urination; 3. To disperse wind and stop itching.


4 INDICATIONS
1. Damp-heat syndrome: a) damp-heat jaundice-Flavescent sophora root (Ku Shen [3]) is used with Phellodendron bark (Huang Bai [4]), Capejasmine (Zhi Zi [5]), Chinese gentian (Long Dan Cao [6]) and oriental wormwood (Yin Chen Hao [7]); b) damp-heat Diarrhea [8] and dysentery-Flavescent sophora root (Kushen) is used with Costus root (Mu Xiang [9]) and Licorive root (Gan Cao [10]); c) damp-heat leukorrhea and eczema of the genitals-Flavescent sophora root (Kushen) is used with phellodendron bark (Huangbai), Cnidium fruit (Shechuangzi) and Chinese gentian (Longdancao).2. Skin diseases, including inching of the skin, scabies and impetigo. Flavescent sophora root (Kushen) can be used internally and externally. The herb is combined with Chinese angelica root (Dang Gui [11]), Dittany bark (Baixianpl), Broom cypress fruit (Di Fu Zi [12]) and Red peony (Chi Shao [13]).3. Painful urination caused by damp-heat. Flavescent sophora root (Kushen) is used with Dandelion herb (Pu Gong Ying [14]) and Pyrrosia leaf (Shi Wei [15]).


5 DOSAGE
3-10g


6 COUTIONS
This herb should never be used with the herb Black false bellebore (Lilu). It is contraindicated in cases with weakness and cold in the spleen and stomach.
