Clinical Observation of Brain SPECT and Coronal CT for Children With Cerebral Palsy After Using Acupuncture for Promoting Du Meridian and Spirit [1]

We apply scalp acupuncture and body acupuncture combining with rehabilitation for the treatment of Children cerebral palsy (CP), there are 50 cases contrast to the 50 cases using only rehabilitation treatment. Treatment method: both the two groups are employed rehabilitation treatment. For treatment group, acupuncture is used including:  (1) Promoting Du Meridian and reinforcing kidney: the points consist of the 13 points in Du meridian combine with K1, Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon [3], Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point [4], and Sanyinjiao (SP6) [5]. Mild reinforcing-reducing method, no needle retaining for children under 3 years age and weak children, retain the needle for 30 minutes if the children are above 3 years old. Treatment course: 2 times acupuncture per week, 15 days interval after every 6 times acupuncture, and 18 times acupuncture are one course.  (2) Scalp acupuncture treatment for promoting spirit: points include Shenting (GV24) [6] penetrates to Baihui (GV20) [7], GV20 penetrates to Nao Hu, Si Shen Cong, combining with motor area, equilibrium area. If the patients have language disorders, points in language area 1, 2 and 3 will be selected also. Acupuncture method: needle in fast, retaining the needle for 4 hours, fast pinch and twist for 3 times during the needle retaining period, needling for 1-3 minutes each time. Treatment course: 1 time every 2 days (1 day interval between every two times acupuncture), 15-20 days interval after 10 times of acupuncture, 30 times are one course. Before and after the treatment, the children in both groups are evaluated for their brain blood perfusion and neuronal function through skull single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). The patients are observed for the recovery of their brain morphology using coronal CT scan before and 6 months after treatment. Assessing children’s development quotient (DQ) using law of the British children's developmental assessment Gai Shier development quotient, the children’s social adaptation ability, interpersonal capability, language ability, and the recovery condition of children’s big and fine activities.

Total effective rate in treatment group: 84%. Total effective rate in contrast group: 52%. The former is obviously higher than the latter.
