Traumatic Hydrathrosis Treated by Wu Ling San [1]

Traumatic hydrathrosis refers that joint fluid effusion becomes abnormally increased after traumatic injury. Writer applies Wu Ling San to treat traumatic hydrathrosis and gets good effect.
Modification: 1. dampness ( increased effusion ): symptoms with heavy sensation on the body, even epigastric distension, white and sticky tongue coating, deep and slow pulse. We add Da Fu Pi [3], Yi Yi Ren [4], Che Qian Zi [5], Ban Xia [6] to tonify spleen and eliminate dampness, increase dosage of Da Fu Ling [7] to 60g. 2. Cold: symptoms with cold and pain, swollen and distension in the joints, pale tongue with white coating, deep and slow pulse. We add Gan Jiang [8], Fu Zi [9], Rou Gui [10], Zhi Qiao and Mu Xiang [11] to warm up yang and promote qi circulation. 3. increased fluid effusion: combined with Western Medicine for prolonged case. 4. after absorption of fluid: when fluid is totally absorbed and there is no fluid effusion, we give Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan 10 to 20 pills to strengthen kidney qi.
