Chinese Medicine Classic / Nei Jin [2]

The Emperor said: "Tell me about the qi of the four seasons please."

Qi Bo remarked: "The spring generation, summer growth, autumn harvest and winter storage are the normality of the seasonal qi, and men also correspond to this. When we divide a day time into four parts, morning is like spring; midday is like summer; dusk is like autumn; midnight is like winter. The yang qi of men begins to engender at dawn, meanwhile the evil is weak, so the disease is alleviated at dawn. The yang qi grows at midday and the growth can override the evil, so the disease becomes calm. The yang qi begins to wane at dusk, meanwhile the evil turns relatively strong, so the disease is aggravated. The yang qi enters the zang-organ at midnight, while the evil devastates the body solitarily, so the disease is worsened."

Key Words: a day is divided into four times in accordance with heavenly qi, in the divine pivot
