The cause of acute infective polyneuritis is still unknown. It may relate to viral infection or autoimmune reaction. An important clinical manifestation of this disease is quickly developed flaccid paralysis of all limbs, usually it starts from the lower limbs and spreading to the upper ones and being symmetrical in distribution. More than half of the patients also experience damaging of the cranial nerves and a small number of patients suffer from paralysis of the respiratory muscles.

The selection of stimulation: Upper three-fifths of motor area, motor and sensory area of foot on both sides.

Early scalp acupuncture can give to patients without paralysis of the respiratory muscles. The therapeutic result is better for patients with a short clinical course and without damage of the cranial nerves.
