98 Cases of Diabetes, Diabetic Nephropathy and Renal Insufficiency Treated with Modification of Liu Wei Di Huang Tang Combining with Sheng Mai San [1]

There are 98 cases in this group and all of them are out-patients. The disease courses are from 2 months to 25 years. 81 cases are NIDDM, 9 cases are Diabetes mellitus, 5 cases are diabetic nephropathy and 3 cases are complication with renal insufficiency. Treatment: the prescription is Liu Wei Di Huang Tang combining with Sheng Mai San. Modification: add Huang Qi [3] for severe qi deficiency; add Gui Jia and Bie Jia [4] (be decocted fist) for liver yin deficiency; add Dan Shen [5] and Tian Qi (be decocted fist); add Tu Si Zi [6] and Fu Peng Zi for plenty of night urination; add Yin Yang Huo [7] and Ba Ji Tian [8] for spleen and kidney yang deficiency; add Che Qian Zi [9] and Yi Mu Cao [10] for edema.


Treatment results: 43 cases of diabetes are cured, 32 cases are markedly effective, 14 cases are improved and 1 case fails. In the 8 cases of diabetic nephropathy and renal insufficiency, I case is cured, 3 cases are markedly effective, 3 cases are improved and 1 case fails.
