We apply single point—Taichong (LR3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point [3] to treat 51 cases of intercostal nerve pain. Patient takes sitting position, we insert needle into LR3 with perpendicular direction, gently thrust and heavily lift needle 3 to 5 times after qi arrival, then rotate needle with reducing method when patient has respiration exercise. We retain needle 20 minutes after rotating several times, 2 times of needle manipulation can be done during retaining, stimulation of needle depends upon body constitution of patient.

Total effective rate is 92.2%, LR3 is shu-stream and yuan-primary point of foot-jueyin meridian of liver, yuan-primary point is the place where qi of this meridian accumulates, liver meridian curves around external genitalia, passes through diaphragm and distributes on intercostal region, liver qi is easily stagnated, so needling LR3 with reducing method can regulate liver qi, promote blood and stop pain.
