Simple Obesity and Obesity Hyperlipemia Treated with Otoacupuncture Pellet Pressure and Body Acupuncture [1]

161 cases of simple obesity with or without hyperlipemia were treated by pellet pressure on otoacupuncture plus body acupuncture for 3 months. The patient’s weight, circumference of chest, abdomen, arms and legs, appetite, sleep, bowel movement, blood triple cholesterol TC, triglycerides TG and high density lipoprotein-cholesterol HDL-C were recorded for comparison. The patients were randomly divided into 2 groups with the single blind method. The acupuncture group110 cases treatment: An Otoacupoint Electron Detector was used to locate precisely on Mouth, Esophagus, Stomach, Abdomen, Hunger, Shenmen (HT7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point [3], Lung, and Endocrine, over each of a seed was fixed with a 5X5 mm piece of adhesive tape for pellet pressure of 3-5 days. The two auricles were used in alternation. For body acupuncture, the bilateral Tianshu (ST25) Front-Mu Point of the Large Intestine [4], Sanyinjiao (SP6) [5], Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point [6], Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point [7], and Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point [8] were selected. The needling and otoacupoint was given once every 3-5 days, with 30 days as one course of treatment. Usually 3 courses were administered. The control group 51 cases: Patients in this group were given Capsulae Olei Oenothera Erythrosepalae 1500 mg b.i.d. only for 90 days.


Results: Body weight of the acupuncture group reduced by an average 5.04 kg, while the control group reduced by an average 2.08 kg; the differences between the 2 groups and between values of the same group before and after treatment were statistically significant (P<0.01), as were also the other indicators. After treatment, 61% of the patients spontaneously reduced their quantity of eating.
