1 TASTE
Pungent and warm

Spleen stomach and large intestine


3 FUNCTIONS
1. To warm the spleen and stomach and promote circulation of qi; 2. To astringe the intestines and stop Diarrhea [3]


4 INDICATIONS
1. Chronic diarrhea. Nutmeg (Rou Dou Kou [4]) is used with Chebula fruit (He Zi [5]), White atractylodes (Bai Zhu [6]) and Pilose asiabell root (Dang Shen [7])     2. Qi stagnation due to deficiency and cold in the spleen and stomach manifested as epigastric and abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea. Nutmeg (Roudoukou) is used with Costus root (Mu Xiang [8]), Fresh ginger (Sheng Jiang [9]) and Pinellia tuber (Ban Xia [10]).


5 DOSAGE
3-10 g (1.5-3g for pills or powder form)


6 COUTIONS
This herb is contraindicated in cases with damp-heat diarrhea or dysentery.
