Large Intestine Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaueous tissue-long radial extensor muscle of wrist-short radial extensor muscle of wrist-front part of extensor muscle of finges-supinator muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the lateral and posterior cutaneous nerves of the forearm In the deep layer, there are the branches or tributaries of the radial recurrent artery and vein and the deep branches of the radial nerve.


Location:
Incline the palm, flex the elbow; draw a line connecting YangxiLI5 (Yangxi (LI5) Jing-River Point) and QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point), a spot on this line, 5/6 apart from YangxiLI5 (LI5), or 1/6 apart from QuchiLI11 (LI11).
Function:
Recuperating the bowel and the stomach, clearing and activating the channels and collaterals, refreshing oneself and improving acuity of vision.


Indications:
Abdominal pain, Diarrhea, toothache, swelling of the cheek, motor impairment of the upper limbs, pain in the shoulder and back.


Prescription:
Combined use with TaichongLR3 (Taichong (LR3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of hypertension; with JiacheST6 (Jiache (ST6)) for treatment of parotitis; and with ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point), ShenshuBL23 (Shenshu (BL23)), PishuBL20 (Pishu (BL20)), WeishuBL21 (Weishu (BL21)), XuanzhongGB39 (Xuanzhong (GB39) Influential Point of the Marrow) and moxibustion QihaiCV6 (Qihai (CV6)), JiaoxinKI8 (Jiaoxin (KI8) Xi-Cleft Point), SanyinjiaoSP6 (Sanyinjiao (SP6)), YinlingquanSP9 (Yinlingquan (SP9) He-Sea Point), GuanyuanCV4 (Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine) for treatment of edema during pregnancy.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 1-2 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and soreness radiating towards the hand; moxibustion: using 3-7 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
