Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-brachial muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the cephalic vein and the lateral cutaneous nerve of the arm. In the deep layer, there are the muscular branches of the brachial artery and vein and the braches of the musculocutaneous nerve.
Location:
1. Sitting position with the arm stretched out forwardly and stayed horizontally; a point at the medial side of the upper arm where the apex of nose contacts when the head is lowered. 2. Sitting position with the elbow flexed slightly; on the lateral border of the tendon of brachial biceps 6 cun above the transverse stria of elbow.
Function:
Regulating the Qi of lung qi and tranquilizing the mind.
Indications:
Asthma, cough, mental derangement, amnesia, grief and cry; epistaxis, hematemesis, goiter, malarial disease, pain in the medial side of the upper arm, swelling and distention of the body, heavy sensation of the body and sleepless, vertigo, myopia, tinea versicolor, etc.
Prescription:
Combined with TianzongSI11 (Tianzong (SI11)) and JianyuLI15 (Jianyu (LI15)) for treatment of scapulohumeral periarthritis; with ChizeLU5 (Chize (LU5)He-Sea Point) and ShaoshangLU11 (Shaoshang (LU11)Jing-Well Point) for treatment of tonsillitis; with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point) and ShangxingGV23(Shangxing (GV23)) for treatment of nosebleed; with NaohuiTE13(Naohui (TE13)) and QisheST11 ( Qishe (ST11)) for treatment of goiter; with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point), LiequeLU7 (Lieque (LU7)Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) and BaihuiGV20(Baihui (GV20)) for treatment of wind syndrome.
Methods:
Direction: Puncture perpendicularly toward the lateral side of arm; depth: 0.5-1 cun; needling response: local sensation of distention, irradiating downward ; moxibustion: mild moxibustion for 5 min.
