Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-supraspnal ligamet-interspinal ligamet.
In the superficial layer, there are the cutaneous branches of the posterior branch of the 5th lumbar nerve and the accompanying artery and vein. In the deep layer, there are the branchhes of the posterior branch of the 5th lumbar nerve and the external (posterior) vertebral venous plexus between the adjacent spinous processes.


Location:
Lie pronely; firstly, locate YaoyangguanGV3 (Yaoyangguan (GV3)) at the same level of iliac crest on the posterior median line, then locate by pressing the 1st spinous process below YaoyangguanGV3 (GV3), in the depression on the lower border of it.
Function:
Strengthening the waist and kidney, and regulating the uterus.


Indications:
Lumbar pain, leg pain, paralysis of the lower extremities, irregular menstruation, and dysmenorrhea.


Prescription:
Combined use with JiajiEXB2 (EX-B2) for treatment of paralysis of the lower extremities; with ZhibianBL54 ( Zhibian (BL54)), and GuanyuanCV4(Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine) for treatment of lumbar pain; and with ZhongjiCV3 (Zhongji (CV3) Front-Mu Point of the Bladder), SanyinjiaoSP6 (Sanyinjiao (SP6)), and TaixiKI3 (Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of dysmenorrhea.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.5-1 cun deep; needling response: local soreness and distension, radiating downward; moxibustion: using 3-7 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10-15 min.
