Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneou tissue-superficial muscles (trapezius muscle, latissimus muscle of back, rhomboid muscle, superior posterior serratus muscle, inferior posterior settatus muscle)-deep muscles (erector spinal muscle, transversospinal muscle).
In the superficial layer, there are the medial cutaneous branches of the posterior branches of the 1st thoracic nerve to the 5th lumbar nerve and the accompanying arteries and veins. In the deep layer, there are the muscular branches of the posterior branches of the 1st thoracic nerve to the 5th lumbar nerve, the branches or tributaries of the dorsal branches of the posterior intercostal arteries and veins or lumbar arteries and veins respectively.
Location:
Lie prostrate or pronely; 0.5 cun lateral to the posterior median line, between spinous processes of the vertebrae from 1st thoracic vertebra to 5th lumbar vertebra, 17 points in unilateral, 34 points in bilateral.
Function:
Regulating the balance between yin and yang, and harmonizing qi and blood.
Indications:
Diseases in the limbs, chest and abdomen.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.5-1.0 cun deep in the cervical and chest regions, and 1.0-1.5 cun deep in the lumbar region; moxibustion: using 5-7 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
