Governor (Du) Vessel

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-between occipital belly of left and right occpitofrontal muscles-subaponeurotic loose tissue.
There are the branches of the greater occipital nerve and the branches or tributaries of the occipiptal artery and vein in this area.


Location:
Sit upright or lie prostrate; in the depression at the upper border of external occipital protuberance on the posterior median line.
Function:
Refreshing oneself and inducing resuscitation.


Indications:
Epilepsy, dizziness, and pain and stiffness in the neck.


Prescription:
Combined use with LiequeLU7 (Lieque (LU7)Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of headache; with TaichongLR3 (Taichong (LR3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of vertigo; with LianquanCV23 (Lianquan (CV23)) for treatment of functional aphasia; and with TongtianBL7 (Tongtian (BL7)), XiaoluoTE12 (Xiaoluo (TE12)) and TiantuCV22 (Tiantu (CV22)) for treatment of goiter.


Methods:
Insert the needle subcutaneously to 0.5-1 cun depth; needling response: local numbness and distention; moxibustion: mild moxibustion for 5 min.
