Liver Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-between base of proximal phalangeal bone of great toe and bead of 2nd metatarsal bone.
There are the dorsal digital nerve of the deep peroneal nerve and the dorsal digital artery and vein in this area.


Location:
Sit upright with drooping feet; in the depression at the end of fissure between the 4th and the 5th toe on the dorsum of foot.
Function:
Removing heat from the liver and blood, regulating the functions of lower jiao, calming wind, and activating the collaterals.


Indications:
Pain in the hypochondrium, abdominal distention, headache, dizziness and veritgo, congestion, swelling and pain of the eye, deviation of the mouth, hernia, urodynia, retention of urine, irregular menstruation, epilepsy, insomnia, and convulsion.


Prescription:
Combined use with ZhongjiCV3 (Zhongji (CV3) Front-Mu Point of the Bladder) for treatment of cystitis; with NeiguanPC6 (Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of angina Pectoris; and with RugenST18 (Rugen (ST18)) QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point), DanzhongCV17 (Danzhong (CV17) Front-Mu Point of the Pericardium), and ZhourongSP20 (Zhourong (SP20)) for treatment of intercostal neuralgia.


Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely to 0.5-0.8 cun depth; needling response: local numbness and distention; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
