Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-fascia lata-middle gluteal muscle-least gluteal muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the suprior clunial nerve and the lateral cutaneous branches of the iliohypogastric nerve. In the deep layer, there are the btanches or tributaries of the superior gluteal artery and vein and the superior gluteal nerve.
Location:
Lie on one`s side; 3 cun posteroinferior to WeidaoGB28(Weidao (GB28)), by the side of iliacbone, in the depression at the midpoint of the line connecting anterior superior iliac spine and the highest point of greater trochanter ( of thigh ).
Function:
Dredging the meridians and activating the collaterals, and strengthening the waist and leg.
Indications:
Pain and numbness in the leg and lumbar region, paralysis, and muscular atrophy of the lower limbs.
Prescription:
Combined use with YanglingquanGB34 (Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon) for treatment of rheumatalgia of lower limb; and with GuanyuanCV4 (Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine) for treatment of endometritis.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 1-1.5 cun depth; needling response: local numbness and distention, radiating downward; moxibustion: using 5-8 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
