Gallbladder Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-external oblique muscle of abdomen-external internal oblique muscle of abdomen-transverae muscle of abdomen.
In the superficial layer, there are the lateral cutaneous branches of the anterior branches of the 11th and 12th theracic nerves and the accompanying arteries and veins. In the deep layer, there are the muscular branches of the anteror branches of the 11th and 12th thoracic nerves and the related intercostal and subcostal arteres and veins.


Location:
Lie pronely or on one`s side; below the free end of the 12th rib.
Function:
Tonifying the kidney and promoting diuresis, regulating the function of the intestine, dredging the channels and activating the collaterals, and relieving pain.


Indications:
Abdominal distention, borborygmus, Diarrhea, pain in the lumbar and hypochondriac region.


Prescription:
Combined use with HuiyangBL35 (Huiyang (BL35)) for treatment of cystitis; with ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of enteritis; with RanguKI2 (Rangu (KI2) Ying-Spring Point) and YinglingquanSP9 (Yinlingquan (SP9) He-Sea Point) for treatment of diarrhea; and with XingjianLR2 (Xingjian (LR2) Ying-Spring Point) for treatment of lumbar pain.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.3-0.5 cun depth; needling response: local numbness and distention; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
Don`t puncture deeply toward the medial and superior aspect, or else the needle would penetrate the kidney by its tip, and cause an injury to kidney with manifectation of hematuria and other symptms.
