Triple Energizer (San Jiao) Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-long head of brachial triceps muscle-medial head of brachial triceps muscle.
In the superficial layer, there is the posterior brachial cutaneous nerve. In the deep layer, there are the median collateral artery and vein and the musular braches of the radial nerve.


Location:
Sit upright with drooping shoulders; firstly, locate NaohuiTE13(Naohui (TE13)), at the midpoint between QinglengyuanTE11(Qinglengyuan (TE11)) and NaohuiTE13(TE13) at the juncture of the posteroinferior border of deltoid muscle and humerus.
Function:
Tranquilizing the mind, and activating the collaterals.


Indications:
Headache, pain and stiffness of the nape and back, toothache, and epilepsy.


Prescription:
Combined use with TianzhuBL10 (Tianzhu (BL10)) for treatment of occipital neuralgia; and with TianzongSI11 (Tianzong (SI11)) for treatment of pain in the shoulder and back.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly, 0.5-0.7 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
