Kidney Meridian

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-anterior side of tendons of plantar muscle and Achilles tendon-calcaneus.
In the superficial layer, there are the medial cutaneous branches of the suphenous nerve to the leg and the tributaries of the great saphenous vein. Inthe deep layer, there is the arterial network formed by the medial malleolus branches and the calcaneal branches of the posterior tibial artery.


Location:
Upright sitting or supine position; at the same level of the inferior border of malleolus medialis, near the anterior border of the Achille tendon. Also, at the level of the midpoint of the line
connecting TaixiKI3(Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) and ShuiquanKI5(Shuiquan (KI5) Xi-Cleft Point), near the anterior boder of Achille tendon.
Function:
Tonifying the kidney, clearing away the heat, and tranquilizing the mind.


Indications:
Uroschesis, gonorrhea, hysterospasm, asthma, sore-throat, stomatitis, esophagostenosis, constipation, malaria, palpitation, neurasthenia, psychosis, dementia, and hysteria.


Prescription:
Combined use with ShiguanKI18 (Shiguan (KI18)) for treatment of constipation; with LiequeLU7 (Lieque (LU7)Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of bronchial asthma; with RanguKI2(Rangu (KI2) Ying-Spring Point), and XinshuBL15 ( Xinshu (BL15)) for treatment of hemoptysis; and with XingjianLR2 (Xingjian (LR2) Ying-Spring Point) for treatment of painful heel.


Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly, 0.3-0.5 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
