Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-biceps muscle of thigh-lateral head of gastrocnemius muscle-origin of popliteal muscle and plantar muscle.
In the superficial layer, there is the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve. In the deep layer, there are the common peroneal nerve and the lateral cutaneous nerve of the calf.
Location:
Lie pronely; 1 cun lateralyl apart from WeizhongBL40(Weizhong (BL40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point) at the midpoint of popliteal transverse stria.
Function:
Improving the functions of Sanjiao, relaxing the muscles and tendons, and removing obstruction from the channels and collaterals.
Indications:
Lumbodorsal muscular spasm, backache, swelling and pain in the knee joint, systremma, spasm in lower abdomen, nephritis, urocystitis, chylous urine, epilepsy, and pyreticosis.
Prescription:
Combined use with DazhuiGV14 (Dazhui (GV14)) for treatment of epilepsy; with ZhongjiCV3 (Zhongji (CV3) Front-Mu Point of the Bladder) for treatment of urocystitis; with YanglingquanGB34 (Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon) for treatment of gonarthritis; with YinmenBL37 (Yinmen (BL37)), TaibaiSP3 (Taibai(SP3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point), YinlingquanSP9 (Yinlingquan (SP9) He-Sea Point), XingjianLR2 (Xingjian (LR2) Ying-Spring Point) for treatment of lumbago; and with TianchiPC1 (Tianchi (PC1)) fortreatment of axillary swelling.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly, 1-1.5 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension, radiating downwards; moxibustion: using 3-7 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
