Spleen Meridian


 

Regional Anatomy:Skin-subcutaneous tissue-medial (triangular) ligament-medial malleolus of tibia. In the superficial layer, there are the saphenous nerve and the great saphenous vein. In the deep layer, there are the branches or tributaries of the medial anterior malleolar artery and vein.


Location:Upright sitting with drooping feet or supine position;at the meeting point of the longitudinal line along the anterior border of malleolus medialis and the transverse line along the inferior border of malleolus medialis.Function: Strengthening the spleen and removing dampness.


Indications: Abdominal distension, constipation, Diarrhea, borborygmus, pain and rigidity of the tongue, pain in the foot and ankle, hemorrhoid.


Prescription: Combined use with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point) and QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point) for treatment of whooping cough; with FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20)) and LianquanCV23 (Lianquan (CV23)) for treatment of stiffness of the tongue and aphasia; and with ChengshanBL57 (Chengshan (BL57)) for treatment of hemorrhoid and constipation.


Methods: Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.5-0.8 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 10 min.
