According to TCM traditional theory, Epileptic Syndrome generally has deficiency, every disease its root which is based on five Zang and occurs commonly due to wind, heat, shock, evils, deficiency, phlegm, among which the phlegm is the head evil. The diagnosis should be distinguished from the similar diseases including insane, hysteria and swoon etc. We should diagnose the diseases individually if they are caused by five Zang, for instance, if there is heart epilepsy, the voice is like sheep’s; if there is liver epilepsy, the voice is like dog’s; if there is kidney epilepsy, the voice is like pig’s; all of the symptoms may help us to judge where are the disease from. As for Chinese medicine application, we should apply herbs generally, since their nature is mild and they can not only treat disease but also have no toxicity and side effect. If there is excessive liver fire resulting in wind, wind moving and cause phlegm ascending, it will disturb mind and block the upper orifices after syndrome differentiation, the prescription should be chosen with the function of clearing liver and discharging fire, relieving wind and dispersing phlegm, calming down heart and nerves, resolving stasis and promoting resuscitation, the herbs include Dan Nan Xing, Fa Ban Xia, Long Gu, Mu Li, Shi Chang Pu, Dan Shen, Gou Teng, Yuan Zhi etc, metal, stone and insect species are not needed. The epileptic syndrome is very stubborn as well as sensitive, therefore, we should prevent the induced factors even if the big outbreak is controlled, for example, the other disease’s attacking and the utilizing of the related treatment medicine, besides, lacking of sleep, fatigue, hungry, constipation, drinking, impulsion, allergy, over air exchange, drinking too much water, flashing, affrighting etc. Otherwise, any cause mentioned above would induce the epileptic syndrome if we fail to prevent it, once occurring, all the previous efforts are wasted, we have to treat it from the beginning.
