Nei Jing

The Emperor asked: "How can you differentiate water distention from skin distention, drum distention, intestinal conglomeration, uterine conglomeration and stone water?"

Qi Bo answered: "When water distention begins, the eyelids swell slightly on the top like when just awakened. The neck pulse beats you can see. An intermittent cough occurs. The genitals and inner side of thighs experience cold sensations, and the feet and shins swell. When the abdomen becomes enlarged, there has already been water distention. When a doctor presses the abdomen with the hands, the sag rises with the hands as if water is wrapped. These are symptoms of water distention."

Key Words: water distention, in the divine pivot
