Nei Jing

The Emperor asked: "What about its condition?"

Qi Bo answered: "If one contracts exogenous evils on the first day, the foot Taiyang channel is attacked. The head and neck are painful, and the loins and spine are stiff. On the second day, the foot Yangming stomach channel is attacked. The yangming dominates the flesh, and its line closely to the side of the nose and connects with the eye, so one gets a feverish body, painful eyes, dry nose and sleeplessness. On the third day, the foot Shaoyang gallbladder is smitten. The Shaoyang channel dominates the gallbladder, and its line goes through the rib side and connects with the ears, so the chest and rib sides are painful and deafness occurs. If the three yang channels are affected, but the evils have not infringed upon the three yin channels, sweating can stop the disease. On the fourth day, the foot Taiyin spleen channel is assailed. Its line is located in the stomach and connects with the throat, so the patient feels the abdomen full and the throat dry. On the fifth day, the foot Shaoyin kidney channel is hit. Its line penetrates through the kidney, connects with the lung, and links up with the root of the tongue, so dry mouth and tongue and thirst occur. On the sixth day, the foot Jueyin liver channel is assailed. Its line goes around the genitals and connects with the liver, so one feels vexed and depressed, and a man’s scrotum shrinks. The three yin channels, three yang channels, five zang-organs, and six fu-organs are contaminated. The nutritive qi and defensive qi do not flow. The five zang-organs are obstructed. So the patient will die."
