Nei Jing

The yang qi nourishes the spirit to make it vigorous, and nourishes the sinews to make them lithe. When the defensive qi fails to open or close the skin’s pores, cold intrudes and hunchback may occur. If the evil further sinks into the channels, fistulas will appear. The evil lingers in the muscular striae, and trespasses through the channels to oppress the five zang-organs. After transmission, susceptibility to fear and even fright may occur. If the nutritive qi is disordered and enters the muscular striae adversely, carbuncles will ensue. The white perspiration does not end, and the body shape will be gaunt, the yang qi is dissipated. If cold attacks at this time, it will make the acupoints closed. Then wind malaria ensues.

Therefore, the wind is the beginning of the hundred diseases. If the yang qi is clear and serene, the muscular striae will be compact to repel. Even if there are great winds and pernicious evils, the body would not be harmed. That is because he acclimatizes himself to the changes of seasons.

Key Words: discussion of vital-qi corresponding to heaven, in the plain questions
