Chinese medicine practitioners believe that Alzheimer's disease etiology and pathogenesis are:
(1) Zang-qi deficiency
(2) Heart yang decline
(3) Kidney essence insufficiency
(4) Heart-mind blocked by stasis
The treatment principle of Alzheimer's disease is: benefit kidney and nourish heart, warm and unblock meridians; focus more at warm and unblock heart yang, then give attention to other organs. The prescription can be: Shen Fu Decoction with You Gui Yin plus-minus as a basis formula. The commonly used herbs: Shu Di Huang, Shan Zhu Yu, Gou Qi Zi, Zi He Che etc to benefit kidney essence and tonify life fire; Fu Zi and Rou Gui to warm and strengthen real yang; Ren Shen greatly tonify yuan qi.  Depending on the degree of heart-mind obsessed, carefully consider the situation to add Dang Gui, Tan Xiang, Dan Shen, Zi Shi Ying etc to unblock heart meridian, restore the heart yang and enrich spirit’s home. After the spirit has its place, it will be able to maintain the way of thinking, memory, emotion and other mental activities.
