Nei Jing

The Emperor asked: “I learned about acupuncture from mister. What he talked about was never beyond the nutritive qi, defensive qi, blood and qi. He said that the twelve meridians are attributed to zang-fu organs inside, and connect with the limbs outside. Can mister bring the twelve meridians into correspondences with the four seas?”

Qi Bo answered: “people also have four seas. The water of the twelve meridians all rushes into the seas. There are four seas in nature. They are South Sea, West Sea, East Sea and North Sea.”

The Emperor asked: “How do these four seas correspond to those of a man?”

Qi Bo answered: “A man has a sea of marrow, a sea of blood, a sea of qi, and a sea of water and grains. These four seas are the counterparts of the natural ones.” …“After we have ascertained the yin-yang, exterior-interior, and passing points of the four seas, the four seas could be determined.”

Key Words: topic on discussion of seas, the divine pivot
