They all store in yin, and their characteristics are like those of the earth. They store things without discharging them, and are called extra fu-organs. The stomach, large intestines, small intestine, triple-warmer, and bladder - these five fu-organs are generated by the heavenly qi. Their characteristics are like those of the heaven. They discharge things without storing them. They receive the turbid qi from five zang-organs, and are called conveyance fu-organs. They do not let things stay too long, convey them away. The anus is performed by the five zang-organs as well. It does not let all things stay there. The five zang-organs store the essential qi, but do not discharge it. So, they are full of essence qi, but cannot be solid. The six fu-organs convey things, but do not store them. So, they are solid, but not full of essential qi. When water and grains (foods) enter the mouth, they fill the stomach, while the intestines are empty. After that, the intestines are full, while the stomach is empty.
