Nei Jing

Water is yin, and fire is yang. Qi (food qi, four qi) is yang, and flavors (five tastes) are yin. The flavors transform to the body's form, structure and internal organs; and then those produce the true original qi. The qi produce the body's essence; and then the essence transforms to the body's function. The essence is made by qi and the body's form is made by the flavors.
The over taken flavors impair the body's form, and the over taken qi (food qi etc) impair the body essence. The body essence transforms into qi, the qi can also be harmed by the flavors.
