Scalp Acupuncture

Cerebral haemorrhage refers to bleeding in brain parenchyma due to the rupture of cerebral blood vessels. Usually, cerebral haemorrhage is caused by hypertension and atherosclerosis with some factors such as emotional disturbance, extreme excitement, nervousness, difficult defecation or heavy physi¬cal exertion.

The disease can be divided into two types:
(1) Haemorrhage of internal capsule: The onset of disease is prompt and the patient may have a coma, hemiplegia, hemidysaesthesia and hemi-anopsia.
(2) Haemorrhage of cortical branches of the cerebral artery: The onset of disease is quick and the patients may just have a short-term coma. The severity of paralysis may be varied due to bleeding at different parts of the cortex.

The Selection of Stimulation: The motor area, sensory area, the motor and sensory area of foot on the opposite side of the physical symptoms.

The routine emergent treatment will be given when there is an acute stage with coma. After consciousness is restored and the patient’s conditions become stable, scalp acupuncture then can start to be applied.

The therapeutic result of scalp acupuncture is related to the location of the bleeding. The patient who has bleeding in the internal capsule usually has poor response to the therapy; however, bleeding in the cortical branches of the cerebral artery, scalp acupuncture can produce a satisfactory and quicker therapeutic result.
