Epilepsy

Internal Medicine

Type 1: Excess type
Symptoms:
At the first stage, abrupt coma with saliva coming out of the mouth and teeth closed tightly, opisthotonus, convulsion, stiffness of the neck, or rumbling in the throat. Soreness, pain weariness of the limbs after seizure. Calm down and return to normal after rest.
Principle of treatment:
Stopping the wind and eliminating sputum, lower the evil fire and tranquillizing the mind. Select the points from the Ren and Du Meridians, the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin, the Gall Bladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang, the Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming. Reducing method should be used in acupuncture therapy.
Prescription:
Shenzhu (GV12) (DU12), Benshen (GB13) (Benshen (GB13)), Jiuwei (CV15) Luo-Connecting Point (RN15), Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point (Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point) Taichong (LR3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point (Taichong (LR3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point).
Modification according to symptoms:
During seizure, Shuigou (GV26) (DU26), Jiache (ST6) (Jiache (ST6)), Shenmen (HT7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point (Shenmen (HT7) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point) are added. If it comes on at night, adds Zhaohai (KI6) The Eihgt Confluent Point (Zhaohai (KI6) The Eihgt Confluent Point);in the daytime, Shenmai (BL62) The Eight Confluent Point (Shenmai (BL62) The Eight Confluent Point) is added. Yaoqi (Ex-B9), Baihui (GV20) (DU20), Fengchi (GB20) (Fengchi (GB20)), etc. may be selected according to the condition.
Type 2: Deficiency type
Symptoms:
At the late stage of epilepsy, it attacks frequently, the intensity of convulsion weakened. Clammy perspiration on forehead, dyspnea with sound of snoring, purple tongue, thin and wiry pulse.Listlessness after consciousness anddizziness, palpitation, poor appetite, soreness and weakness of the loins and knees, mental dullness, tiny and weak pulse, pale tongue with thin fur.
Principle of treatment:
Replenishing and restoring the heart and spleen, dissolving sputum and sedation. Select the points from the Heart Meridian of Hand-Shaoyin, the Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming, the Spleen Meridian of Foot-Taiyin, the Gall Bladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang and Back-Shu points. Puncture with reinforcing method and moxibustion may be added.
Prescription:
Tongli (HT5) Luo-Connecting Point (Tongli (HT5) Luo-Connecting Point), Fenglong (ST40), Shenshu (BL23) (Shenshu (BL23)), Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon (Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon),Sanyinjiao (SP6) (Sanyinjiao (SP6)), Jinsuo (GV8) (DU8)
Modification according to symptoms:
For prolonged unconsciousness at seizure, Yongquan (KI1) Jing-Well Point (Yongquan (KI1) Jing-Well Point) should be punctured, moxibustion at Qihai (CV6) (RN6). For regular therapy, Zhongwan (CV12) Front-Mu Point of the Stomach (RN12), Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point), Baihui (DU20), etc. are added.
