Nei Jing

The three months of spring are called generation and staleness elimination. The lively qi of heaven and earth is growing, and everything is flourishing. A man should go to bed late and get up early. Walking slowly in the garden, loosen the hair and relax the body, so as to let thoughts act vigorously. He should make things alive not dead, give things to others and not deprive others of things, and reward others rather than punish.  These behaviors are responses to the spring qi, and ways of nourishing generation. If he is disobedient to these, the liver will be impaired, and a cold disease will occur in the summer, because of a bad basis for summer growth.
