Nose bleeding is called "epistaxis" in TCM, it is one of ordinary diseases in five sense organs department. According to the clinic familiar symptoms and signs, we divides "epistaxis" into syndrome types as following: (1) Deficiency of yin and dryness of lung, nose collaterals injury; (2) Flaring up of liver fire, disturbing circulation of blood; (3) Hyperactivity of stomach fire, burning yang collaterals; (4) Qi deficiency of lung-spleen, failure of blood to circulate in meridians. The author built "Three Shi Decoction" to treat 50 cases of nosebleed.

The basic prescription includes calcining Hua Rui Shi, Sheng Zhe Shi, Ling Ci Shi, Dan Shen, Huang Qi, fresh Shan Sao, Shan Zhu Yu, Sheng Di Huang, Gan Cao. Modification according to syndromes: (1) For deficiency of yin and dryness of lung, nose collaterals injury, adding Sha Shen, Mai Dong, Bai He; (2) For flaring up of liver fire, disturbing circulation of blood, adding Huang Qin, Chi Shao, Mu Dan Pi; (3) For hyperactivity of stomach fire, burning yang collaterals, adding fresh Shi Gao, Zhi Mu, Bai Mao Gen; (4) For qi deficiency of lung-spleen, failure of blood to circulate in meridians, adding Lu Dang Shen, Sheng Ma, Bai Zhu; (5) For injury of nose mucosa, adding Xian He Cao, Jin Yin Hua and ji Xue Teng; (6) For platelet decreasing causes nosebleed, adding E Jiao (dissolving by hot water), Dang Gui, Zi He Che (grinding into powder, dissolving in the water and taking).
