60 Cases of Constipation due to Excess Heat and Dryness Treated by AcupuncturePosted by: admin on Mar 08, 2008 - 04:25 AM60 patients who are constipation due to excess heat and dryness in stomach and intestine are treated by acupuncture. The prescriptions: Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point, UB25, Shangjuxu (ST37) The Lower He-Sea Point of the Large Intestine, Neiting (ST44) Ying-Spring Point and Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point. Results: The total effective rate is 96.7%. Discussion: The reason for constipation of excess heat and dryness in stomach and intestine is yang excess of body, having a preference for spicy food or strong taste, or heat stagnation of stomach and intestine, body fluids exhaustion due to insobriety. The intestine looses lubrication and stools stagnate in intestine because of dryness, then stagnation of Fu qi in large intestine turns to constipation. Needle on UB13 applying reinforcing method to reduce lung qi and open the Fu qi of large intestine because lung and large intestine are internal and external related with each other; ST36 is not only the He-sea point of stomach meridian of foot yang ming, but also the "earth"in the earth, regulating stomach and intestine specifically; needle on it applying reinforcing method to benefit original qi and open the Fu qi of stomach and large intestine; Needle on UB25 applying reinforceing method to promote conduct function of large intestine, because the qi of large intestine meridian perfuses into UB25; ST37 locates on stomach meridian of foot yang ming, and is the lower-he point of large intestine, ST44 is ying-spring point of stomach meridian of foot yang ming, and LI4 is the primary point of large intestine meridian of hand yang ming; needle on the three points to reduce the heat of stomach and intestine. Fu qi is open and reduced, heat stagnation in stomach and intestine are dispersed, the qi and yin are abundant, stomach and intestine get moist, stools do not get dry any more and the conduct function of large intestine recovers.
