72 cases of herpes zoster were randomly divided into a treatment group of 38 cases treated with surround needling plus surround moxibustion on the same area; and a control group of 34 cases treated with surrounding needling margin of the herpes zoster from beginning to end of the herpes zoster.

Results: 97.4% effective rate in the treatment group; and 85.3% in the control group (P<0.05). The herpes stopping and scab time is shorter in the treatment group than those in the control group. Also the incidence of residual neuralgia is lower in the treatment group than that in the control group.
