There are totally 99 patients with 57 male and 42 female; youngest is 10 years old and oldest is 51 with most from 20 to 30; duration of tonsillitis is 1 to 2 days for 79 patients, 4 to 7 for 20; 33 patients suffer from fever and 66 no.
2 Treatment method
In general, symptoms of tonsillitis include red, swollen and pain of tonsil, difficult swallowing. We massage Bian Tao Xue (Tonsil Point) on both sides 1 minute, then needle Yuji (LU10) Ying-Spring Point on both sides with reducing method (LU10 is ying-spring point that is characterized by clearing heat, tonsillitis is caused by excessive heat or deficient hest, and needling LU10 is less pain than needling Shaoshang (LU11)Jing-Well Point, so we prefer to apply LU10 here). We add Dazhui (GV14), Quchi (LI11) He-Sea Point, Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point by reducing method for fever; add Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point by reinforcing and LU10 by reducing for kidney yin deficiency (kidney yin is deficiency, fire with deficient type flares up, then yin can not moisten tonsil).
3 Treatment result
For patients without fever given by acupuncture and massage:
1 to 2 times of treatment, then cured – 41 patients, 62%
3 to 4 times of treatment, then cured – 25 patients, 38%
For patients with fever given by acupuncture and massage:
2 times of treatment, then cured – 17 patients, 52%
3 to 4 times of treatment, then fever is relieved but comes back, sore throat is relieved but repeatedly happened, at last cured by given antibiotics drug – 16 patients, 48%
Remark:
Bian Tao Xue (Tonsil Point) locates medial and inferior to lower mandibular angle, anterior to carotid artery. It has functions to relieve inflammation and stop pain, indicate tonsillitis. Because it locates closed to artery, we do not needle but massage this point, patient can feel soreness and distension. Mostly, sore throat and unusual obstruct sensation can be disappeared after therapy.
